It’s been about 10+ years since going to Las Vegas. I can’t say I had the best memories here. There were hundreds of “flickers” which are people handing out risky fliers trying to get you to go to clubs or worse (I am not even going to finish that statement.) So we weren’t really necessarily looking forward to it.
However, both Ben and I were surprised that LV has really cleaned things up! The strip is really fun and both had a great time! Here are a few things we did the week we were there. Check out our video!
Freemont Street
I didn’t know this, but there was an “old Las Vegas” on Freemont street but that had been really worn down compared to the rest of the strip. Well since Zappos moved in, they have really tried to spruce things up and Freemont street is now VERY impressive.
They had a container park with a giant praying-mantis out front which had a fire on its antennas. This park was a place where bands could play, and locals could sell their art work.
As you walk down Freemont street, you will notice a huge canopy overhead. This turns into a projector that reflects imagines that correlate with the music. They had these circles on the ground where vendors could sell, or ladies could get their picture taken. I think this is so it doesn’t get to crowded with buskers. We ended the night with Evel Pizza and headed back home.
We Gotta See A Show!
We debated on going to a few different cheaper shows or seeing one big show and we decided to see Cirque Du Solie! I had never seen it before and it’s been on my bucket list for a while! The stage was a moving pool which could rise and submerge. Crazy that this is a performers life.
We couldn’t take any photography inside, but we got a pretty good one outside.
The Strip
We spent a night walking around on the strip which included seeing Caesars Palace, The Bellagio Fountain, the Mirage Volcano, and the Venetian canals. Each had it’s own charm.
I hadn’t seen anything except the Bellagio fountain so the volcano was a really big surprise. Ben and I decided for our 10 year anniversary that we would splurge and pay for a few nights at the Bellagio.
Meeting Up With Old Friends
We met up with a few peeps from both our missions. I met up with an Elder that served in my first area. I remember him always being so nice and super strong missionary. He has 3 little girls and another on the way. These girls were so incredibly cute. His amazing wife mentioned over dinner she would like to live in Texas and I am secretly crossing my fingers they do! I totally spaced getting a picture but we will do it next time we hand out.
Ben also had an old mission buddy in town. We met him and his wife for dinner at a local Greek food place. It was good and fun to catch up and hear mission stories!
Mom And Bill Stopped By!
My Mom and her husband Bill have a little tear drop trailer they take on adventures every once in a while and they just so happened to be driving through Las Vegas and hung out for a little bit. It was fun to share our first home with some family as no one has seen it yet!
Next stop is St George!
